Design In Dentistry sponsors a variety of youth sports, local charities and school organizations. We enjoy visiting schools to educate children about their oral health and volunteer our time and services during oral health care screenings. It is important to us that all children have equal access to quality dental care.
Our Giving Smiles Program is dedicated to giving smiles to underserved children. Since 1991, we have donated over $375,000 in free dental and orthodontic care, to over 850 children. "The need for a program to help the children of our community is tremendous, and having the opportunity and ability to meet those needs is not only satisfying on a professional level, but on a personal level as well," explains Dr. Ortner. "The entire staff looks forward to our annual clinic."
Our doctors have been honored both locally and nationally, including the honor of outstanding leadership and service to education by California State University, Sacramento, Department of Education. The doctors and staff always look forward to giving children healthy, happy smiles!
In 2002, an auxiliary component was added. Each year, Dr. Gerard Ortner donates his time and cosmetic dentistry expertise to help survivors of domestic violence, referred by local women's shelters. "Women robbed of their smiles are silenced," explains Dr. Ortner. By assisting survivors with their physical scars, they are given renewed confidence and hope, to help ensure their independence and pursuit of a more positive, healthy, and rewarding life.
Participants of the Giving Smiles program must be referred to us by local school districts, women's centers, or non-profit organizations after a thorough screening and assessment process.
